چکیده

A random access protocol for wireless networks was recently proposed in [16], that achieves high throughput by exploiting cooperative diversity of network nodes. According to that scheme, when a collision occurs, the network nodes bounce off the signal that they heard during the collision slot. The base station, by processing the collided packets and the relay transmissions can recover the collided packets. However, that approach was designed for a singlepacket reception (SPR) channel, where the capacity is one packet/time slot. In this paper, we propose a cooperative random access scheme for a channel with multi-packet reception (MPR) capability. The MPR channel is divided into multiple separate subchannels and each user is allowed to transmit multiple packets over different subchannels at the same slot. Packets transmitted on different subchannels can be separated without interfering to others. We propose schemes for resolving collisions on various subchannels in a way that we minimize the average processing time for each collided packet. We also demonstrate that the proposed approach fully exploits the channel capac-

The capacity of multi-channel multi-interface wireless networks with multi-packet reception and directional antenna

The capacity of wireless networks can be improved by the use of multi-channel multi-interface (MCMI), multi-packet reception (MPR), and directional antenna (DA). MCMI can provide the concurrent transmission in different channels for each node with multiple interfaces; MPR offers an increased number of concurrent transmissions on the same channel; DA can be more effective than omni-DA by reducin...

Network-level performance evaluation of a two-relay cooperative random access wireless system

In wireless networks relay nodes can be used to assist the users’ transmissions to reach their destination. Work on relay cooperation, from a physical layer perspective, has up to now yielded well-known results. This paper takes a different stance focusing on network-level cooperation. Extending previous results for a single relay, we investigate here the benefits from the deployment of a secon...

Energy Efficient Communication with Random Node Cooperation

In this chapter, we focus on the energy efficient cooperative communication with random node cooperation for wireless networks. By “random,” we mean that the cooperative nodes for each communication event are randomly selected based on the network and channel conditions. Different from the conventional deterministic cooperative communication where cooperative nodes are determined prior to the c...

Receiver Controlled Medium Access in Multihop Ad Hoc Networks with Multipacket Reception

The advent of diversity modulation and signal processing has changed the underlying assumption of the conventional collision model that at most one packet can be received at each node of a network. The use of antenna arrays, code division multiple access (CDMA), and space-time processing with multiuser detection makes multipacket reception (MPR) a more realistic model for the physical layer of ...
